Ensure you have an enjoyable holiday by pre-acclimatising to high altitude before you leave home.

Travel to remote locations around the world whether it be mountain biking the world’s highest pass in India, crossing the Andes or ascending the high passes of Bolivia is now not just the domain of a select few. Indeed more and more people from all walks of life are discovering the world's majestic wilderness locations to re-acquaint themselves with nature.

Whilst this may be a soul rejuvenating experience it can also come at a high price.

You don’t want to leave anything to chance that could make your trip memorable for anything other than the breathtaking scenery or the sense of achievement of reaching great summits.

Although a person’s reaction to high altitude is dependent on genetics, certain people are predisposed to being affected by Acute Mountain Sickness more severely than others. Research shows that 80% of people ascending to altitudes of 13000ft/4000m or higher will suffer the debilitating symptoms including headache, nausea, and insomnia to some extent. While this risk cannot be completely eliminated, it can be predicted, controlled and significantly reduced in a cost effective and timely manner.

PerformO Altitude provide Simulated Altitude Training (SAT) courses ideally suited to those traveling to high altitude. A SAT course involves receiving a reduced oxygen supply which stimulates physiological changes in the body similar to those experienced at high altitudes. Ideally a course should run on successive days for 3 weeks prior to travel. Customised to each individual, a course involves daily, 60 minute-long sessions where the recipient receives alternate cycles of high altitude oxygen followed by sea-level oxygen. A base altitude fitness program of 15 days is also required. The positive adaptations from the program can last for up to three months.

PerformO provide the service at their central Christchurch base, or any location convenient to you such as your home or office anywhere within New Zealand.

PerformO Altitude will reduce the risk of you developing Acute Mountain Sickness, enabling you to manage the altitude better.  This means being able to remain active for longer, suffer less at high altitude, increase your immune function, and enjoy your adventure while at your full potential.

Consider these benefits before you pack your bags:

  • Reduce the risk of Altitude Sickness

  • Reduced Jet Lag
